Retrospecticus: May 2012
Yeah, I still do this and yeah, I’m still here. May is over, June is here. I have a Mini Breeding Bird Survey to do (which will be nice), and a ton of not as fun non-birding stuff knocking at my door and stealing my birding time away from me (not so nice). Such is life. But it’s only 6 more weeks until the shorebirds start coming back and bringing with them a long lingering fall migration where there’s no worry that you’ll miss everything.
But in case you missed some stuff this week. Here’s some Drinking Bird for you.
I’m battling for third place in Durham County, and I’ve already lost my second place in Orange. So it goes.
Hatteras is still a powder keg because of craven politicians. It annoys me to no end. Apparently they don’t know well enough to stop picking at scabs, but I guess if there are votes in it.
I participated in the Carolina Bird Club spring meeting. I led a trip for Swainson’s Warblers. We did not see them. but the kites were cool.
I did get a “life” bird this month, finally putting eyes to an Eastern Whip-poor-will, even if it was a terrible look.
Birder Jargon project is back, at least for a little while.
Seriously hunters. Why you gotta vote Republican?
Yellowthroats are pretty. Not much more to say about that.
That’s all for now. See you in June, I mean, later in June!
