Birds you go to Texas to see

Sabal Palm yesterday morning, that birding jewel formally cut off from the rest of the nation by a ridiculous fence.  It’s open once again, thank goodness, and I went there along with several other birders looking for South Texas specialties that the Rio Grande Valley Bird festival exists specifically to show to people.  And I saw them.  Many of them anyway.

Least Grebe.  Is cute, no?

Green Kingfisher.  Little, hidden, rattley.

Green Jay.  It may be dressed like a harlequin, but it is unquestionably the true king of the jays.

Great shots of a nice set of birds! Green Jay is just spectacular.

Interesting, never have seen a green Jay, always a blue jay or gray jay. The green jay is actually kind of pretty bird.
