November 2010: Retrospecticus

November 30, 2010

November!  The one month that the general public finally pays attention to birds, it’s just that they’re belly up on the dining room table.  Baby steps, people!

Here at The Drinking Bird, however, it was birds 24-7.  Or at least 3 to 4 times a week depending on how prolific I was feeling.

– I started a tasty new series on beers with birds on the label with Red Tale Ale and The Poet Oatmeal Stout.  I’m happily taking requests and or bottles sent to my address.

I considered a mystery wren I found in Wyoming that could have been an armchair tick (I decided it was).

– I reviewed the fabulous new guide to Parrots of the World published by Princeton University Press.

– I grieved for the loss of one of the last rural areas in the triangle of North Carolina, an unfortunate victim of political animus aimed at those higher up.

– I got to bird with another blogger, Grant of The Birder’s Library.

– I salivated at the prospect of picking up my 500th lifer on a recent trip out west, and then ended up with more questions than answers as to what I saw.

Not a bad month considering.  More to come as we put a bow on 2010.

Thanks for reading!
