Citizen Science in full flight

April 3, 2010
by

This past week yours truly was quoted in an article about eBird and citizen science that was published in the two biggest papers in the state, the Charlotte Observer and the Raleigh News & Oberserver. It’s pretty cool and I hope what attention it garners encourages other birders in the state to get on eBird and start logging their sightings.

Anyway, check it out!

Hi Nate, glad to see you posted this link; and I’m glad the editors kept your quotes in. I also had two sources in there who were working on amphibian citizen science projects, but they got cut out. I guess the editors wanted to retain the birds theme.

@Delene- Thanks! I guess I can understand why, from the general public’s perspective birds probably seem a bit more approachable and apparent than herps. People see birds every day, and you have to work a bit for amphibians.

Too bad though, amphibians need all the help they can get these days.
