December 2009: Retrospecticus

December 31, 2009

The year comes to a close, and while everyone is in the mind of looking backwards at the year that was, we’ll do that on a smaller scale here at the Drinking Bird with a reminder of the month that was.

– I started the month with some great birds on my morning jaunts through my place of employment.

– My son Noah got some nice bird books to begin his naturalist’s library.

– I considered the philosophical aspects of looking for birds.

– I added a visitor from the far west to my North Carolina state list.

– I completely botched a straight-forward identification of a ridiculously common bird.

– I won a pair of binoculars for a digiscoped photo I took.

– I looked back on my top 10 birds of the decade that hasn’t quite ended yet…

– And headed home for the holidays to find a beautiful little living ornament.

So good-bye to 2009, and I don’t mind telling you that I’ve got some really really cool stuff coming up very soon in 2010.  I hope you’ll join me!

Happy New Year!
