My Life’s Birds: #69

June 27, 1993 – Greene Co, Mo

O Captain! My Captain! our morning trip is done;
The Honda’s weather’d every rack. The prize? List raised by one;
The bird is near, the hoots I hear, my own voice exulting,
While follow eyes through optics clear, the owl grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O sinking soul of dread,
Where by the road the auto lies,
The engine has gone dead.

With the anniversary of Lincoln’s birth in mind and great apologies to Walt Whitman.

And no, the car didn’t really go dead, but the rhyme worked and I’m allowed some elaboration, right?
