This winter has been special all over the United States for the irruption of several winter species far South of where they typically go. I have been gazing with considerable envy at my colleagues up north and the haul they’ve procured. But earlier this week I too, got to get into the fun. I noted a Pine Siskin on my thistle feeder Tuesday morning as I was getting ready to head to the museum. I took this picture of its ass, it flew off before it turned around. So, northern finches even in North Carolina this year, it has been quite a season.

We knew you missed us… so we left Ozark, MO at Sniderman and Sky Girl’s feeder and flew I-40 to spread some winged love.
