December 2009: Retrospecticus
The year comes to a close, and while everyone is in the mind of looking backwards at the year that was, we’ll do that on a smaller scale here at the Drinking Bird with a reminder of the month that was.
- I started the month with some great birds on my morning jaunts through my place of employment.
- My son Noah got some nice bird books to begin his naturalist’s library.
- I considered the philosophical aspects of looking for birds.
- I added a visitor from the far west to my North Carolina state list.
- I completely botched a straight-forward identification of a ridiculously common bird.
- I won a pair of binoculars for a digiscoped photo I took.
- I looked back on my top 10 birds of the decade that hasn’t quite ended yet…
- And headed home for the holidays to find a beautiful little living ornament.

So good-bye to 2009, and I don’t mind telling you that I’ve got some really really cool stuff coming up very soon in 2010. I hope you’ll join me!
Happy New Year!
