April 2009: Retrospecticus
They say April showers bring May flowers, which I’ll buy only if by flowers they mean warblers, since here in North Carolina the flowers have been out for several weeks. Either way, by the end of the month the birding is all kids of hot, this kind of birding we wait all year for.
But up to this point, well, it’s been a tad slow. But what has gone on?
At The Drinking Bird I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time on politics, both of Duck Stamps and global warming legislation.
Found a birding connection at the Planetarium.
Pickled a few birds and stuck bands on their legs at the natural history museum.
Enjoyed the Red-shouldered Hawks raising babies in my backyard.
And enjoyed the slow return of the neotrops, sometimes in the company of some sharp teenage birders.
The birding will certainly get better in May, but I should warn my regular readers, I’ve got some other things on the horizon that might take precedence. Have no fear, though. I shall return!
