March 2009: Retrospecticus
March ends like a lamb in North Carolina, and the Drinking Bird celebrates another month closer to spring migration’s peak. But before the warblers and tanagers can get here in force, a look back…
I helped begin what I hope will be a fun initiative with the Wake Audubon Young Naturalist’s Club.
Mourned the loss of my favorite birding shoes.
Contemplated what a Crossbill split means for birders.
Honored a forgotten southern naturalist and visited a forgotten Smithsonian exhibit.
Considered the pros and cons of modern wildlife management and what it means for birders, and even though we’re seeing some really great positive changes, wished for a little more.
And even got a little birding in, even if some of it was in my own backyard.
Thanks for stopping by and reading. It means a lot to know that I have a community of like minded folks out there. I hope you’ll keep coming back!

“It means a lot to know that I have a community of like minded folks out there.”
Exactly, Nate, exactly.

Ditto what Jochen so eloquently (and succinctly) summed up.
Looking forward to your continuing exploits – I’ll be back as long as you’re writing!

Thanks a lot guys. I wasn’t angling for compliments or anything, but I’ll take ‘em.
