June: Retrospecticus

June is a slow month for birding, as evidenced by a drop off in hits to this blog, but that didn’t stop me from getting out and finding birds (quite good ones too), even if its like birding in a sauna.

No, June is better known for other things, like Father’s Day, and if you can’t get out and do some birding, then at least stay at home and take action for birds.

In North Carolina news, things are burning up out east, both literally and in the rare-bird department.

And perhaps best of all, I got a free book! And a darn good one too.

We may be deep in the dog-days of summer but it won’t be long till we’re in the bird-days of fall. Come back next month as I celebrate one whole year of bird blogging. What a moderately long, rarely strange trip it’s been!

NCBY08 Update – While enjoying a recent trip report by Corey of 10000 Birds where he found a Black-necked Stilt I began to think to myself that it was odd that I apparently hadn’t found a Stilt in North Carolina yet this year. Turns out it was odd, and in looking at my lists from this spring found that I had found a Stilt on my return trip from a recent pelagic and forgotten to note it. One armchair tick later and I’m at the 250 milestone for the year. So a lesson, always take notes.
